I like waking up in my tent in the morning and laying there in my sleeping bag all warm and cozy.
I like making bacon for breakfast then sitting in my tent sipping coffee or tea and looking at the trees.
I like stopping for a long lunch at a scenic overlook.
I like talking to other hikers I meet on the trail.
I like stopping and setting up my tent and making dinner.
I like having a small camp fire and doing a little partying.
I like to hang in my tent.
I like to sleep a lot.

but I don't like hiking, especially hiking up hill.

Oh yea, and I also like zeroes, the most.

So why not stay home? That's an even bigger zero. You could hang out on WhiteBlaze and go on endlessly about all the things you once did or might do were you not preoccupied with tapping on your keyboard.

Hire a Sherpa. He could carry all your gear for you, so all you have to do is walk.

Hmmm,
I like seeing whats around the next turn.
I like the exhilaration of an especially challenging section being conquered.
I like looking for the perfect spot to pitch camp.
I like the suprise of the view from the summit ahead.
I like all your stuff too but enjoy the getting there much more.
YMPVAB (your mileage probably varies a bunch)

I don't like hiking up or down hills.
I don't like hiking when it is too hot or too cold.
I don't like hiking when it is raining or snowing.
I don't like my trail cooking.
I don't like trying to look normal to get a ride when I have to hitch to town.

I like hiking because it gives me a lot to bitch about.:banana

OK Panzer1. I've got a deal for you.
I'll do all your hiking for you. I'll take video so you can see where I've been, and you can pitch your tent in your backyard and enjoy that aspect without ever having to hit the trail. You can watch the video while you're hanging in your tent. :)

OK - HYOH (Hate your own hike). That explains why your "Year of thruhike" under your avatar says "Still waiting."

Ya know, your dislikes did not include cold weather so you can still thruhike. Just start on New Year's Day: 9 1/2 months to reach Katahdin, that's 288 days which comes out to 7.5 mpd. You can do it!:D

I like walking. I like camping. I like eating outdoors. Only thing I don't like about hiking is not taking a bath. I like my baths.

How about just 1 night? 2? 3? What can you tolerate?

Some people backpack to hike...
Others backpack to camp...

Some of us do both from time to time.

(Some of us are happy that it snowed this week and is snowing right now. Another weekend of skiing. Woot! Woot!)

It's all good.

This sounds like my son to the tee. Except you forgot - I like to read a book at road crossings.
...And yet he completed the trail.

Panzer, there is hope for ye.

I miss my recliner and putting my feet up in the evening. Not having a chair to relax in the evening is tough. Glad for a tree and my thermarest seat cushion. It barely makes do.

Why hike if you can use one of these? They can even yellow blaze for you! That way you can camp and get to the next feed in style.

It all work, but somehow it's addictive. I don't march up the trail in some kind hiker euphoria gushing over the views. I huff, puff and curse my way along, but afterward, I'm looking for the next trail. I'd say my least favorite part is all the bending down, squatting and general gymnastics involved in camping. I'm just not limber enough.

Not sure why some want to "dis" Panzer for his likes and dislikes about the trail. We all hike for various reasons. Some for the miles, some for the camping experience that a wilderness trail leads to. Some might hike for the athletic challenge of it. It's not for anyone to put down what another hiker wants out of the experience. Sometimes some of you sound really condensending about other's hikes.

This is exactly why I spent 4 months on the trail and only traveled 850 miles.

Panzer,
We need to hike...camp together more often. I tend to look at backpacking / hiking as a great way to get to beautiful campsites rather than a way to get from point a to point b.

I can go as long as needed provided I can 'wash up' from a cup AM and PM. Growing up we camped/RVd quite a bit. My mom was a water-nazi...man o' man you did not take more than your allotted cup for washing up!

Now that I'm older I miss the showers when I'm out for more than a day. I get chilled easier than I did when I was a youngun. But curling up in my sleeping bag will do. (The whole time I'll be wishing I had that hot shower though!) ;)

I like challenges - see how many miles I can make in a day and things like that. I like to start early and hike late.

I like eating at the end of the day.

I very much dislike camping and sitting around. I can do that at home.

To each his own!
