I will be using a MRS pocket rocket with those fuel canisters, and at my home I have a gas stove. Do you think I could just bring the stainless steel pots (just one pot) from my house or will they burn or something? I don't want to damage them.:

Well, of course you *could*.

The biggest problem is that the weight of the handle will almost guarantee you that the pot tips over and falls off the stove at some point.

Been there, done that.

even if it has water and food in it? Also nice to see another from Wilmington even though different states lol

Cut off/ unbolt the handle and use a bandanna or glove - packs better with less weight. If money's tight go right ahead. There's less liklihood of damaging household pots (stainless) than hiking specific pots because they're thicker walled and intended for daily use for years.

Yes.. try it at home.

On my first hiking trip my son and I took a small pot from home to cook in. We spilled 2 pots of water before I finally just held the handle until the water boiled. :)

The part of the pocket rocket that holds the pot is only a few inches in diameter, not nearly enough to provide stability for a pot you'd use to cook with at home. At least none of our pots....

Pick up one of the grease pots from Walmart for like $6.

Or ask around. Someone should have one of those stainless nesting pot things you could borrow. Better than maiming one of the house pots.

Buddy melted the handles off one of his mum's good pots when I was young. She was justifiably wild.

See if it works. But it might be kind of heavy to tote around. Grease pot works good also.

I go with Blissful. What's wrong with aluminum at a fraction of the weight of SS? Ti is lighter yet, but oh, so expensive...

You could, buy why? It will be heavier, it will get ruined, and a good hiking pot isn't that expensive. . . and you're going to continue to need it, right?

K-Mart. Walmart doesn't have them anymore.

A pocket rocket is a light weight stove and is supposed to be used with a light weight pot.

A stainless steel pot from home is probably going to be so heavy that it will suck up too much heat from your stove just to get the pot hot.

My recommendation is to get a small aluminum pot that is sized to be use with a pocket rocket.

No, just a pen/pencil and a few quarters.

Bring whatever pot you like. I cook all my stuff on a pocket rocket in my over-sized coffee cup.

Those are good for making coffee as well.

I did the stainless steel pot from home (handle removed, aluminum pie tin as lid.) thing once. At 2 lbs it weighed more than my current cookset (17 Oz with stove & 8 Oz fuel). I still have it, sort of a souvenir, but I will never carry it again.
It sustained no damage in 8 days of use on a PeakII stove. Not surprising really, I think it could have withstood being run over by a tank so the little flame of my stove was barely noticed. :p
