Keep in mind, these heat packs have a variable shelf life, generally the ones in foil pouches last the best. Generally if they are kept for much more than a year, you may have some "duds".Most of the time if they feel "crunchy" they are compromised and wont work well or at all.

I saw the hand warmers in packs of 6 for a dollar fifty at Walmart recently...

Picked up a LARGE bag of warmers at Goodwill about 5 years ago. Many were obviously an older version of the logo, etc. Have used them over the last 5 years with the Scouts with no duds. Getting down to the last few, so Big Lots on the way home tonight! Our Wallys don't seem to put them on sale.

I tried several fresh hand and toe warming packets on a ski trip this past month and was disappointed in both the amount of heat produced and the duration of heat output.

Lowes (the lumber company) had 'em for .50 each.
