Well, there's 19E/Elk Park where Mountain Harbour B&B is close to the trail and Elk Park is 2.5 miles the other way..

Then there's Dennis Cove Rd, with Kincora Hostel just off the trail.

There's US 321 with Hampton and Braemer's Castle....

And at Low Gap it's less than 3 miles to Shady Valley with a grocery store but I've never been here....

That's a good list. I mailed a food cache to Mountain Harbour (http://www.mountainharbour.net/) on my Damascus-to-Erwin section. I also stayed at Braemer's Castle but didn't mail a cache there.

Next time I hike that section I'm going to hit up Braemer's Castle. I regret not doing it when I went throught there last time.

I sent a maildrop to Braemers Castle (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=98008) in Hampton and also stayed there. I highly recommend it. Had a quiet night i.e. good night's sleep, used the self-service kitchen, and Sutton gave me an early morning shuttle back to the trail.

I stopped in at Kincora, and Bob drove several of us down into town in the morning for resupply at a large grocery store. Enjoyed the stay immensely.

I remember walking upstream less than a mile to the Laurel Fork Lodge instead of going to Kincorra, and they had a few groceries there and some hot-pocket thingies and a microwave and a PC, I think, and shower and laundry. Nice place for a break, and saved a trip into town.

I wouldn't suggest Shady Valley unless you are desperate. And its 14 miles into Damascus. Its only a couple small convenience stores. Its way over priced, because its the only things around.

Take note: Laurel Fork Lodge is now closed. The only hostels for the Hampton area are Kincora and Braemer.
