I've been looking at that one, have not gotten my hands on one in person yet though.

I've got the W80, and have had pretty good luck with it. It eats batteries if you shoot much HD video, but everything does.

I shot all the photos and video with that camera for this video

I have two of the earlier models. They are fine cameras. The only missing feature is optical image stabilization (called IS by Canon, VR by Nikon, Steady Shot by Sony, and Mega OIS by Panasonic), which is hugely useful for me while hiking. Panasonic has a new waterproof camera with Mega OIS, wide angle lens, etc.

I just ordered the new Olympus Stylus Tough 3000 using my United frequent flier miles which were about to expire due to inactivity. I'll let you know how it fares over the next month.

I love Pentax rought&tumble cameras - I have a W10 and W30. But the reviews of the W80 were pretty bad - terrible picture quality (the W30 is mediocre). I sure hope they drastically improved the W90.

Kerosene, I recently got the same camera. Let me suggest you get at least one extra battery. I got 224 shots using 1 and 3/4 batteries. The pictures come out good but I'll have to go through the manual to see if there are recommendations to extend battery life.

Thanks LIhikers. I noticed that the estimated battery life was pretty short relative to other P&S digicams, but I recall that it was at least twice as good as what you experienced. I always bring a second battery as I'd rather not be without a camera or have to overly ration my shots.

I'm bummed. I was hoping Pentax would have improved on the W80 poor picture quality. But it appears from the reviews trickling in that the W90 suffers from the same pathetic picture quality. I was hoping to upgrade from my W30 to a weather resistant with HD video capability.

dla,

I was in need of a new camera and was pretty much looking for the same things you are in a camera. After a lot of research and pricing I settled on this one. Panasonic tmc-ds1 (http://www.buy.com/prod/panasonic-lumix-dmc-ts1-12-megapixel-digital-camera-with-4-6x-optical/q/loc/33409/210911468.html) It's last year's model but it now costs about half what it retailed for when it was the latest greatest.

It gets consistently good reviews, has wide angle lens, is light weight, weather/water/dust resistant, and shoots hd video. The price in that link is the best I could find. If you're interested, I'll let you know what I think when it arrives.

I don't know about the reviews, but I do know lot of people with the W80 that like them They take great pictures and video for the size and weight of the camera.
They don't take the same quality as a 2 lb camera/lens combination, but they do very well for the weight.

My experience has been that it has done better than any other camera in it's weight range that I have tried.

PS I have a Pentax W60. It does what I want, is light, waterproof and durable. Ithink it may not be as sharp as a W80 or 90.

Here are some photos taken a couple weekends ago. These photos aren't anything special, but it shows what some snapshots with the lesser model can take:
