Appreciate any and all info on my gear list. Some beta: heading out April 23 to section hike Georgia--Amicolola to Deep Gap, North Carolina.

Some things can't change: not buying another backpack (I live in Colorado and need this solid pack for all the mountaineering I do). Not buying another tent (heavy, yes; but my buddy's carrying the other half).

Other than that, critique away! Let me know about anything I need to take away or add. Thanks, in advance.

1. you're carrying convertable pants and a regular pair of shorts, unnecessary.
2. i know you said you're not going to change but its very wise to try and get your big 3 (pack, shelter, and bag) under 6lbs total. I have a WM summerlite (19oz), cuben tarp (4oz) , bivy (6oz) and ULA conduit (18oz). that comes out to 47 oz (2.93 lbs.) you're carrying 9.625lbs. thats where you are going to cut your main weight. My gear list was cheaper than yours, weighs less and is much more practical (IMO). I dont know what money is like for you but here are some good website: www.mountainlaureldesigns.com www.gossamergear.com www.sixmoondesigns.com

Everything looks reasonable. It ain't perfect, but you are not going to kill yourself.

How can any gear list be "perfect", the criteria for making this claim is entirely subjective. 29 pounds seems to be reasonably light and reasonable, I think a critique of his gear should only amount to advice that will ultimately improve his experience.

Looks good. A little heavy for my taste, but it shouldn't kill you.

2 long sleeve tops and two bottoms may be a bit more than you need. If you are wearing zip-off pants then you probably don't need the shorts too.

Rain Gear
Marmot Aegis jacket (14.2 oz.)
Total: 14.2 oz.
Looks fine

I like to have something without a hose when drinking at meal time. You may want to add a small bottle or something. But it is just a preference choice.

Not totally sure about your weight because I don't know how many days you are going between re-supply, so I'll assume this ain't your first rodeo and you know your way around that. I have run into starving hikers though that picked this route as a way to save on weight.

Other than just nit-noid style critiques about how I would do it vs you, you look fine. Nothing is missing that is going to cause your death. Have a fun hike.:sun

The llist is very reasonable. You are under 30 pounds, including your water. There is plenty of water along the trail in Georgia, so you arent likely to be always carrying the full 2 litres. So you may be running closer to 26 lbs most of the time. There will be a lot of hikers carrying considerably more than you. Most AT hikers wish they could get their pack down to below 30 to start out.

I am usually running between 25-35 pounds fully loaded for 5-7 day trips. I could get lower than that if I wanted, but it is a comfortable weight for me (physically and mentally). And in the long run, that is all that matters. I have similar issue as you. I have a mountaineering pack and a 4 season tent because I hike out west and it is needed for those trips. And I dont want to have keep swapping gear depending on what part of the country I am hiking in.

Have a great hike.

You guys are awesome! Thanks. And thanks Ox--you're right, I'm not buying another tent and another pack for a week-long trip! Ridiculous.

I leave this Friday!
