When did it last snow in the GSNP for this year?

April 7th. They got a dusting at the higher elevations. There is still 18 inches at elevations above 6000 ft. But it is melting fast. Forecast for this coming week is sunny skies and warm temps. Any remaining snow should be off the trail by week's end.

However, the park usually gets one big snow storm every year with accumulations of 6+ inches. Since we havent had it yet this year, I wouldnt be surprised to see it come the 3rd or 4th week of the month.

Thanks. Months ago, I had a friend inquire about hiking in April, and I told her there was always the chance of snow. I was wondering about the accuracy of my advice. They put off their hike until June.

I was up there one time and it snowed the second week of May. Granted it was just a dusting and melted before mid day, but it was there.

April is my hiking month in the GSNP. I've been doing 5-8 days there since 1993. I've only missed 4-5 years during that time frame. I would say that 50 percent of the time I see snow. Snow is not really a bad thing as long as it's not over 4-6 inches. JMO. Hope that helps.

I just reread the OP and realized my post above had nothing to do with the original question. Lost my head.

sure it did. thanks for the input. It supports what I told them. They didn't even factor in the chance of snow. I don't think they want to hike in snow.
