Hey all - I've put several updates on the website that some of you may be interested in. If you're an HF member you may have already seen them, but for the guys who don't go there often I thought some of these ideas may interest you, since WB doesn't get much traffic anymore in the Hammock Camping subforum.

One is a trip report from a quick overnighter to Springer Mtn where my base weight was 8.2 lbs. Sure you can get lighter with just a tarp and torso-length CCF pad, but your back and knees are barely going to notice the difference between 5 lbs and 8 lbs...and mine sure notice the difference of a good night's sleep in the hammock. Gear list is posted there.

I also put up a report from Congaree National Park where I hung two hammocks from the same suspension line, and inside the same hammock sock. So it was much quicker to put up b/c I only had one pair of tree huggers and one adjustment to make, using a ring and a slipknot, and Joker (8 y/o at the time) was inside the sock with me so we shared the warmth and it was easy to check on him during the night.

Also pics from the HF Colorado Winter Hang...it got to just below zero, and there were 12 folks with 12 different setups for that temp. Some underquilts, some pads...some partial underquilts with leg pads. Everyone stayed warm...except for one of the most experienced members!

And then a -2F trip that Joker and I took on 23 Dec, right after we moved to Colorado...we were actually still in the hotel but of course I had to bring my gear with me. The wind shifted right after I set up, so there was a steady 8-10kts wind blowing in from the head end all night, and I still had all kinds of condensation in the morning. It was crazy. Pretty good trip, though.

I'm also in the process of updating some format issues and such...one of the additions is a "What's New" section on the front page (http://www.tothewoods.net/), which folks had asked me to add.

Hope y'all find some of this info useful, and helpful to dialing in your hammock setups for both winter and summer!

Thanks Turtle Feet! It's a lot of work sometimes but I really enjoy it...it spurs ideas from other folks, and that spurs ideas for me, and it's a cycle.

On another note, I just finished Insanity and this is my recovery week...I start P90x tomorrow! :D

Insanity looked more intense than the P90x videos I bought. I'd love to try either of them, but I'm not in one place long enough to get into a rhythm, so I stick to a Fit for Life (http://bodyforlife.com/) regimen, which works moderately well.

Insanity was pretty intense, but it's mainly cardio/plyo and not strength training. P90x can be strength training if you do the 8-10 reps. I wanted to fix my cardio before building up, so I got Insanity first. It worked for me, and kept me motivated.

In case it wasn't clear why I posted that, Turtle Feet is a Beachbody coach...Beachbody is the company who publishes Insanity and P90x. Just didn't want people to think it was entirely random. :D

And now back to the regularly scheduled hammock programing...

I like to do a nice 20 mile day then bust out my dvd player and do my P90X workout to wind down.....not
