Can't join you this time. Have a good hike. Let us know when you'll be hiking near Ocala.

It has been a VERY wet winter here. I'm not sure of the current conditions, but I know that 2 work parties at Myakka have been cancelled due to wet trail conditions. Check with the Trail Master, Bill Martin before confirming this hike. I had wanted to hike part ot this trail earlier this year, but after I talked w/ Bill, I decided waterslogging wasn't my idea of a fun hike. To get his info, go to the Suncoast Chapter FTA site and click on Chapter Officials to get Bill's contact info. BTW, it will be helpful when you talk to Bill if you have a map of the site in front of you.

I have been talking to the park rangers & they confirm wet but drying everyday. I postponed this hike 2 weeks in hopes it will dry by then. They say the campsites are dry but still water on some of the trail.

I was just there this week and 'wet' is an understatement. I bailed after one night (two days walking around from the Primitive to the Prarie and back.)

That sounds like a lot of fun. I've been thinking about paddling the wilderness waterway in the Everglades, but now there will be swarms of mosquitoes.

Is Myakka wooded? Someone told me that it is mostly prairie. Been thinking about hiking down there, but good drive for me from North Florida. Also is is a good place to paddle?

Mayakka is a good place for hiking but it is also the mayakka river so you can paddle there too.
I am doing a portion of the of the Swannee River. Actually it is the Santa Fe river. It is a portion of the Florida Trail from White Springs west. Going 5/21 - 5/23

Update: the wife and I hiked there about 5weeks ago and it was still very wet. There was one road back near bee Island was submerged knee deep for around 100 yards in a single stretch. Numerous other places were slightly wet or ankle deep. Hopefully we will have the dry winter I have heard predicted and it will improve.
