Just curious, why is the frosty mountain spring not shown on the trail. There is no sign or anything pointing to it on top of frosty mountain. I had a map and I had planned on making this a water stop, and it was easy for me to find with the compass and map, but there is no trail leading down to it and you sure as hell had to bushwack to get to it. It was fun for me and I actually love finding things by map and compass. But I was just curious as to why there is no clear cut path like the other springs on the A.T.? Is the spring tainted with something nasty, lol. If so I drank a whole bunch of it and it tasted good.

Often wondered that myself. I've never taken the time to look for it. Next time you go up there bring a sign and blaze a trail for the rest of us! :-)

I'm at the library, thus don't have my maps, but isn't this the approach trail?

How far off the trail is it?

Now that you mention it ... is the spring shown on the map at Rocky Bald, Nantahalas, NC that mud puddle that flows slightly across the trail north of there or is there a real water source somewhere nearby?

Yes, it is the Approach Trail, 4.8 miles from the start. .2 mile east.
