View Full Version : Access to trail from I-40 just past Daveport Gap
Planning on starting a section hike in mid-May, flying into Knoxville from Toronto - arranging a shuttle and wondering if any recalls if there is actually access to the trail at I-40 just past Davenport Gap - I don't have the detailed guide book for that section yet and online maps appear to show the trail going 'under' I-40.
If my driver drops me at where I-40 goes 'over' the trail can I easily get on the trail from there?

Yes there is, I believe it's the Waterville exit, but there was a landslide over the winer and you have to take long detour to get to the exit. Contact the Bluff Mt. Outfitters in Hot Springs, NC they can give you more info.
I-40 re-opened this week - no more detour...
it is Waterville exit.you can get to it w/out any deture from Knoxville.i was there 2 weeks ago.
ps the trail goes under I 40 on the exit 451

Dude I live 1 mile from I-40, Exit 451. I-40 is still closed.
Exit 451 ='s the AT. Just have the driver drop you at the exit.
