Listening to hiker reports on TrailPhone.net at the office, I heard one hiker mention a problem with a bear, or bears, eating folks food up around Blood Mountain. In previous years, a 6-mile stretch has had to be closed off due to bears. Anyone have any news on 2010 bear problem?

Man, that is bear alley. Lot's of hikers get their stuff nabbed in that stretch. I talked to 3 hikers on last years thru who had their food bags and cook sets grabbed by some very enterprising bears.

The biggest problem with bears is fear mongers like you.

I hardly think a personal attack is warranted since you do not know me at all nor my intentions.

How is passing along a report from recent NOBOs fear mongering? Passing along news on a possible bear problem seems like common courtesy. Kind of like when I patrol a park and warn hikers and bikers to be careful of a skunk up ahead on the trail. That's not fear mongering, but courtesy.

Nontheless, I forgive you. God bless. :)

Fear mongering doesn't kill bears; poor food management does.

Lotta different scenarios coulda took place that justified the shooting. Still, hate to hear it.
Does anyone know the particulars of the incident?
