Please forgive me if I spelled the name of the shelter wrong. While doing the AT this year, as I was walking the ridge on the way to Sarver Hallow there were all of these rock piles to the side of the trail. Some were as high as 5 feet and had been there a long time. Many people remember seeing them, but no one knows what they are or how they got there. Anyone remember this and know what they are?

I remember them well. I thought that they were the results of farmers clearing their fields of rocks. I seem to recall similar, although not so well defined piles, north of RT-19E near Roan Mountain, TN

3 page story about the Sarver Cabin shelter that mentions the Sarver family - they were the ones that moved the rocks so they could farm there...
