I will be section hiking north in the smokies and was wondering where would be the best place to leave my car for 6 days. TY

i dont know where you are starting but fontana is a PERFECt place to leave your car. Good size parking lot out in the open a bit up the road from the dam. I left my car there for a week when i did a trip to Davenport gap.

Leave it at Standing Bear Farm, just North of Davenport Gap.

sorry bout that, ya big creek would be your best bet. If i were you i would hitch a ride back, or if you have the money take a shuttle, its crazy expensive though.

A shuttle from Curtis at Standing Bear is probably the most reasonably priced option in the area.
He would shuttle you from Big Creek to Fontana if he has the time. Call him to find out if he would be available.

Another vote for Standing Bear Farm. Of course, parking at Fontana Dam is free and pretty safe, I think. And not far from Fontana Dam is The Hike Inn. Nice folks when I stayed there a few years back. Lots of options.

Probably Sept 6. I have 2 other guys going too so im waiting to see if that date works for them as well. U heading at out as well?

I parked at Big Creek and got a shuttle back to Fontana from Jeff and Nancy at the Hike Inn. I've also shuttled with Curtis before and had no problem with either one.

Thought we could split a shuttle.
Sounds great. We planning on driving up to Davenport Gap on the 5th and getting the shuttle to Fontana and staying at the Fontana Dam shelter. Pretty sure those are the dates. Still waiting for confirmation with the other guys.
