1st, I must say, yes, I am going to ask this in the hammock forums too..But I'm starting here..

Considering hammocks lately, I have had a question come up. What about ants in the hammock?? Now, I know there are places in the North without fire ants, but here in Texas, they are everywhere..They even climb the trees..matter a fact, here in North Texas, it is hard to find a tree without ants..So, the question is, how do you keep these tyrants off/out of your hammock??

hopefully, the answer is to keep it zipped. Please tell me my hammock is as bug proof as my tent.

I would think you could use a hammock that is ant proof, but just putting something that repels them on the hammock suspension should prevent them even if it is a netless hammock.

Never had the problem camping here in FL or on GA section hikes. That was one reason I went to a hammock - fire ants!

If you get a zippered hammock, it'll be just as ant-proof as a tent.

I've never really had problems in a tent with ants, and certainly never in a mesh-enclosed hammock. Enjoy!
