Howdy,
Thanks to all for a great forum. Like many, I have been fabricating personal equipment, and repairing quality equipment for years. For our recent trekking trip to North India, I sewed a silnylon floor, and reinforced the corners, on a Golite Utopia 2. This makes a solid mountain tent, with interior room for packs and boots. Under 2 kg with pegs, easy. Great protection from wind and cold, but not so good for rain and high humidity.
Now, for solo trekking I have sewn a silnylon floor into a Golite Utopia 1. I will coat the floor as before as per..http://jwbasecamp.com/Articles/Silnylon1/index.html. With a 30" x36" silnylon tarp to string up over the door in the rain, and a door sized mosquito screen to complete the kit . Total 2 lb 10 oz.
Will update soon.
