THIS FRIDAY - we're doing a Hiker Picnic in SNP at Smith Roach Gap Parking. Come hang out with thrus and bring some food. 10 AM to 5 PM, rain or shine

Rest of the time, too much to do here to get ready for hike July 1 (in which we go June 19 for a trip to Banff beforehand) :). But will probably take a day hike in SNP one of the days.

Camping in the oxymoronically-named Canon Sin Nombre in Anza Borrego Desert State Park (California's largest state park, which is sayin' somethin'!) and hiking a big hunk of the 1849 Butterfield Overland Stage Route. Through a swamp. In a desert. Honest.

I did a out-and-back yesterday to Thorton Gap from Jewell Howell overlook(with a side trail to Mary's Rock). Finished before noon. When I went past Byrd's Nest 3 the first time someone still had her tent up...as I was heading back I ran into a young woman(about my age) with an incredibly obese Chihuahua that looked like she was long distant-hiking(looked like the same tent that I had seen before). Chihuahua was mean. :(

I got out when the getting was good. I saw about a zillion RVs on Skyline drive.

I did a 15 mile loop out near my house today. I started in the night, camped, then finished this afternoon, it went great. Except I was in my Five Fingers Classics and now I can barely walk, and I ran out of water with 5 miles left. Fun though!

Today I installed an insinkerator and a dishwasher in my house that I'm trying to sell. And put down linoleum in the laundry closet. Tomorrow I'm putting new linoleum in the kitchen and regrouting the bathrooms. Then on Monday I'm laying out in the sun and getting drunk. Anybody want to buy a house in Athens?

I am working on photographs of food for my website, designing the layout of the pages as I proceed. Just Jeff's nice website of text, photos and photo descriptions HTML and CSS actually made sense to me, after looking at a helpful forum a little. Thank you Jeff.

Oh, I am loafing at the edge of the big-city because everyone else left town. Haha.

The forest was full of people.

The campgrounds look like a suburbanite's back yard bar-b-que. The crowd started crowding-in Wednesday.

Remember Memorial Day! And, remember the veterans who made it out alive.

Just got back from the Caudill Cabin hike just off the Blue Ridge Parkway in NC. Is it just me or does the last mile of that hike take *forever* -- in both directions! Anyway we got an early start and didn't see anybody on the trail on the way up, or for the first half on the way down. Then it got crowded. Had a nice lunch on a rock in the middle of the creek. It was cool-ish but humid in the morning, and downright hot by the time we got back to the car.

Good warmup for our summer section, only a month away.

Woof, the only reason why I would be in GA is if me and Sherman are taking a March to the Sea. :D
