Where do I want to go? Love to find a place that won't be cluttered with people. Enjoy being off the beaten off, but not a must. Difficulty not a problem. Like to not catch much flack for having my dog off the leash (a little ok).

I live in the Charlotte Area, but would be willing to drive 3 hours.

Thoughts?

Check out the Linville Gorge, it's huge and not very crowded at all. It's big enough to do a day, a weekend, whatever you want. Pretty rugged in parts, depending on where you go. Fantastic views, beautiful river.

I'm spending Friday night here and thinking about hiking out to the 115 yr old cabin if I can find someone else that's also interested...

Basin Creek and Bluff Ridge Primitive look pretty cool on the link. I've never been to that area.

Check out the Bartram Trail, Foothills Trail, or Benton MacKaye Trail outside the Smokies. Plenty of freedom, views, and solitude. All within 3 hours drive.
