Any tent sites/shelters real close (north) of harpers ferry? we'd rather use the money to go rafting than to get a hotel...

Across the foot bridge, go left (upstream) along the C&O canal towpath to Huckleberry Hill. See map but check C&O NP website for any closures. Porta potty, pitcher pump, fire ring

How far is Huckleberry Hill from Harpers Ferry? Later in June I am arriving by train and want to camp the night I arrive before my shuttle takes me south to my starting point the next morning.

If you follow the Trail North from town in Maryland, (along the canal path and river), there are all sorts of places to camp. (You'll see countless side trails leading towards the riverbank that end in good campsites).

Obviously avoid structures, private property, and anywhere that is posted.

People have camped here for years and years without any problems; needless to say, be a good guy, keep a small camp, don't light a fire, and leave the place better than you found it.

I camped there last year. I don't remember the name but it was a little over 2 miles left down the C&O canal. Spots for at least 10 tents.
