I GORP my GORP with
-Dehydrated Bananas Chips
-Dehydrated Strawberry Chips
-Shelled Salted Pistachios
-Peanut M&M's
-Broken up Bits of Oats and Honey Granola Bars

Man it was good (minus the R of course... not a raisin fan)
...... what other homemade ideas are floating around out there?

My usual recipe:
Dried cherries, Pepitas (shelled pumpkin seeds), shelled sunflower seeds, regular Cashews, dried pineapple (I like it cut very small, about 1/4" or smaller pieces), Hot n Spicy Corn nuts, Wasabi cashews, shredded coconut.

I like the Idea of breaking up a granola bar into the GORP, so I'll do that next time.

Usually, mine is a simple dried cranberry and raw almond mix. When I feel like getting fancy with it, I add some raw cashews and sunflower seeds.

If it ain't "Good Old Raisins and Peanuts", it ain't "GORP", its trail mix.

Personally, I prefer currants and dried blueberries over raisins, and almonds and sunflower seeds over peanuts, and I usually have them with oats rather than as a dry trail mix. Lately I've been premixing it all with my oats, with skim milk powder as well.

early on i have

chocolate covered espresso beans
broken up granola bars
banana chips
some kind of caramelized nuts

this eventually switches over to mostly fruits as i just continually add new stuff into a gallon ziploc

I like a big one pound hunk of dates now and then.
Sticky fingers, and you have to be careful not to break a tooth on a pit, but good feed.

I hear you. GORP = homemade as far as I'm concerned. GORPing up my trail mix sounds like a great idea but I need to come up with something better than coconut and sunflower seeds.

I stand corrected...

The word gorp, an alternative name for trail mix, may stand for "good old raisins and peanuts", "granola, oats, raisins, and peanuts", or "gobs of raw protein". These are all probably backronyms or folk etymology. The Oxford English Dictionary cites a 1913 reference to the verb gorp, meaning "to eat greedily".

I added wasabi peas to the mix only to discover trailside that my wife had been into the gorp bag and cherry picked them all the night before. I'm quite sure they would have been great, tho.

Halava (middle eastern sesame seed + sugar confectionary), honey sesame crunch (my local natural food store has it with sunflower seed and almonds for more protein, also a middle eastern confectionary), pepitas (pumpkin seeds) are all must-haves in my GORP.
