I am heading out past State College Pa for the 4th of july weekend. Sproul State Forest near Clarence/Snow Shoe. Anyone have any suggestions on some good day hikes in that area?

Moshannon State Forest/ Black Moshannon State Forest (can't remember for sure)has several loops that connects with the Quehanna Trail..

The Allegheny Front Trail runs through Black Moshannon SF as well. Two good sections are along Six Mile Run and the vistas between Underwood Rd. and Rt. 504.

Search on Chuck Keiper Trail north of Snow Shoe - I prefer the west part of the west loop.

I like the Quehanna Trail a little better - that's northwest of Snow Shoe a little bit further, past Karthaus. Lots of connecting trails in the loops so you can pick your distance fairly well. It's in the Moshannon and Elk State Forests but not really in the end of the Moshannon SF that's near Black Moshannon State Park.

Keystone Trails Association actually has a Prowl the Sproul weekend in July. It is after you will be there, but the Web site mentions several trails in the area.
