I'm planning on starting at Katahdin sometime between mid-June and early July. I expect to hike about 10 miles/day to start and in time increase that.
I'd really like to have a hiking partner, I'm 21 and I don't feel comfortable hiking alone.

There will be plenty of other SOBOs starting at that time. If you don't find a partner beforehand, you won't need to be concerned about hiking alone. I started on June 14 last year solo and hiked with the same group of eight to ten hikers all through Maine. 10 average miles per day to start is about right.

Hi Kate.

I am also looking to do a SOBO hike around that time...but I think I might be doing a section hike instead of starting in Maine. I am also a young woman, so, there's that.

Maybe we can talk about it more? Let me know if you are interested.

I will be starting at Katahdin around June 24th and I am a young woman (well, 30, is that still young?) hiking alone too. Don't be uncomfortable, solo hiking is wonderful. I've already done over 1000 miles with just me and my dog. Look at my video, it may inspire your confidence!

I don't think you will have much of a problem finding other hikers to team up with. Late June and early July are very popular times for SOBOs to start their thrus. With that being said, I will probably not be starting until around July 10th. Maybe I'll see you out there!

Good Luck,
Donnie

I will be flying to Bangor July 8th for a SOBO thru-hike. I will be hiking slow in the beginning. I am looking to partner up with someone at some point.

I'll be sure to check the trail registers to see if I recognize any names. That is, of course, if you are using names similar to your Whiteblaze names. Anyway, good luck and happy hiking.
