I'm planning a thru hike of the Colorado trail with a friend in August of this year. Have decent 3 lb and 3.6 lb tents just now (MSR Carbon Reflex 2 and the REI Quarterdome.. will be selling one of them soon, both are new.)
I was wondering if we could make do with a Tarptent Squall 2 in the Rockies on the Colorado Trail if we hike through the month of August.
I hear there are thunderstorms almost everyday but I'm not sure how much wind and rain this entails on campsites and how a Tarptent would stand up to it. The Squall 2 weighs 34 oz compared to 54 or so for the REI Quarterdome T2..
If not the Squall 2, would any one be able to recommend a similar lightweight 2 person shelter for the Rockies in the summer?
Thanks!
