I recall reading about a train stop right on AT in NY. Could someone help me out with info on its location and best way to get there from CT. I would probably catch the train in New Haven to start.

I believe it's in or near Pawling, and it's a whistle stop, meaning that you have to ask to be let off there. From New Haven, you'd have to go into nyc and take a train to Southeast, then transfer. Here's a link to the Metro North site. Click on "east of Hudson" and then continue from there.

It's a Metro North station called Appalachian Trail. There is limited service on weekends only. It's located on the Harlem Line between the Pawling and Harlem Valley-Wingdale stations, where the AT crosses NY RT22.

From New Haven, you would have to towards NYC on Metro North's New Haven Line and then back out again on the Harlem Line. How to get from one to the other?

Take the Danbury branch on the New Haven Line. I believe there's bus service from Danbury to either the Brewster or Southeast stations. Otherwise it's a $30-ish cab fare IIRC. If you can't find the details on the bus service, let me know because I have a friend who lives in that area.

All the rail info is to be found at www.mta.info

Don't go to Danbury; it's a needless complication. Just ride the train directly to Grand Central Stn, then (assuming you already have your ticket) walk across the waiting room and get on the Harlem Division line. As noted, if on a weekday you'll have to either get off 2 miles early in Pawling or overshoot the AT Stn by 2 miles and get off in Wingdale.

This website has a couple of pictures of the stop if you are interested: http://rohland.homedns.org/at/at_NYsection3/ATPictures.aspx

From this page, you can get a Google map of the station: http://rohland.homedns.org/at/state/state_detail/AT_state_detail.aspx?stateID=9%20&sectionID=55
