Been hiking eastern Europe last four years. Mostly in Jan and Feb. Lots of snow and brutal cold. Following route of french army from Russia through Lithuanian. All bushwhack, unmarked local trails and plenty or road walk. Sort of follows Vilni River. Only reliable resupply is at "Kavinas", sort of a cafe/pub found in even the smallest villages. They make pancakes from shreaded potato with little flour and egg. Added sausage pieces and bacon if you request it. My staple food along with chocaolate, coffee, tea and local salame type dried smoked meat and fish. Those cakes hold up well and really fill you up. Sure they would do the same over here.

Seems to me that if you brought along the pre-cooked bacon, this would be ridiculously easy. I can't think of many taste combos that are better than bacon, pancakes and syrup. I know that real maple syrup is supposed to better, but honestly for the actual taste Mrs Butterworth's is pretty damn good.

Pretty hideous ads, weren't they? No, he would not because I'm armed and I'm not afraid to use it. Whole different world now isn't it?

I have often bought the precooked bacon with the intention of taking it on the trail,,, the first two packs (bought separately) didn't make it the 5 minute drive home  So next time I bought TWO packs at the same time, Pack one was gone in the parking lot, pack 2 lasted about 15 minutes after I got home.

NO, I don't have a problem!! I can quit bacon anytime I want. In fact, I quit 3 times today, , , so there :p

The precooked bacon would be a great idea, same method, but much quicker. Maybe some day I'll actually get a pack of the precooked on the trail.

Just a reminder there is an old school product of Shelf Stable Bacon you can cook and keep unrefrigerated up to 30 days in your pack. You won't need a lot, so don't worry about the price. You can repack this into smaller quantitys and refrigerate the unused portions for later trips. http://www.broadbenthams.com/
