the gps i have is got basic maps.i cannot buy those $100 map upgrades.is there a way to acquire better maps that are not insainly expensive.im not much of a techy so in english and slowly please. the unit is a garmen map60.any ideas? any advise is more than i have.im a real newby with gps

www.gpsfiledepot.com has free maps. Unless you skipped a letters on the model name of your gps, I don't think you'll have enough memory to load many map sections.

I happen to have the TOPO USA 2008 DVD - I would be willing to part with it, what would you offer?

You don't say what area you're interested in, but another site with free maps is http://switchbacks.com/. These are mostly for the Pacific NW, but excellent quality.

Another thing you can do is google: garmin "free maps" {area you're interested in}. I did this for Malta and the UK recently and found free gps maps for both (although for Malta it was just road maps).
