What is the typical "overnight" fee at shelters that have them in VT ? I've just stumbled upon this in my research for our upcoming thru, 2011.
$5 at Stratton Pond, Griffith Lake, and Little Rock Pond
according to ALDHA's online companion...

ok thanks. not too bad. i was hoping it wasn't too steep.
In VT you pay $5 once, then all other pay sites on the AT in Vermont are no additional charge if used within a week.

correct.
with a dated reciept of payment at one of the sites ($5 per person/night), you may stay for free at any of the other two fee sites south of maine jct, within a week.
fee sites are: (from s. to n.) stratton pond, griffith lake, little rock pond.
these are the best sites to stay, so stay at one/two/all of them!
