View Full Version : Could really use a few prayers

Like the title says, I could use a few prayers for my dad. Last week my dad headed to Nashville -- where he is originally from -- for vacation, to visit his brothers and a bot of motorcycle riding.

Sunday morning he was in an accident. He hit a culvert and it caused the bike to flip over on top of him.

Right now he is in trauma at Vanderbilt Hospital. All of his ribs on the left side are broken and of course his lungs and heart took a hard hit. He's far from being out of the woods.

I have been here since Tuesday morning. It really sucks being 700 miles from home like this. But please say a prayer for my dad. This is the guys that introduced me to camping, backpacking and enjoying the outdoors.

Tuck, prayers headed your way and to heaven for your Dad and you! I'd offer you a place to stay, but I'm leaving town this morning to go visit my own father for Fathers Day in SC. Happens to be my mother's 75th birthday too. I suppose this is a reminder to cherish good parents if we've still got them.

Rain, Thanks it means a lot. Dad is the greatest man I know and I miss talking to him. I called him last Saturday to wish him a happy 67th birthday, but only got his voice mail. He called me Sunday morning to let me know that he and my uncle were getting ready to head off on their bikes, but I had already left for work and got my voice mail. As I was listening to that voice mail, my uncle called to let me know of the accident.

SO sorry, hope he gets well soon.

I know what you mean - my mom fell and broke her hip a week ago and is over 700 miles from us. We did truck it out there to see her in Chicago (she was there visiting my sister and is from NY) but not sure when I will see her again as we are headed for the AT July 1.

So how is dad doing?

We almost lost him Saturday night/Sunday morning. I got a call from the Dr to get down to the hospital as he might not make it. However he improved a little bit and they were even able to get him so that he could travel for a CT scan -- something they have been unable to do for much of the week. He is hanging in there and is one tough guy but, he is far from being out of the woods.

The folks here at Vanderbilt have been great and I love them. They have taken great care of my dad. And thanks to everyone here for you kind words and offers of support. I am a lil stir crazy right now and have been at the hospital from 4 am until 7pm every day since I got here. I think a trip to REI maybe in order (never been to one).

Again to everyone here thank you so much!

You're right; a break will do you some good.

I hope this is of help; I've never been to Nashville, so YMMV.

Tuck, I got back in town last night, so if you want some company at the hospital or to run to REI or out to grab a bite anytime, give me a shout. I'll PM you my contact info. Please keep us posted on your father. I got to spend the entire weekend in SC with my father for Fathers Day, thankfully.

Once again, thank you to everyone here for all the prayers. It means so much to me.

Dad is doing so much better. We almost lost him twice as his heart would race and then slow down causing his blood preasure to drop. A temp pace maker was placed and the regulation of his heart caused much improvement. Infection was also a concern, but that risk is going down. All to the point that a few days ago the Drs were afraid that he would not make it, but today they were all really happy with where he is at. Much improved and waking up more and more. He is trying to talk and can atleast express how much pain he is in. He was able to look at me and mouthed to me that he loved me (yeah I sobbed like a baby). Many of the lines are being removed and they are letting most of the drugs work out of his system so that he will eventually become more alert. They are now having him evaluated for a move to another hospital for his long term care. Still a long road to travel but we are in a good place now.

Thank you everyone!!

PS -- Maybe now I can get some real sleep and Rain, take you up on your offer to dine out and meet some other Nashville WBers.

Glad he is doing better. I too will join many in prayer for your family and also the people at Vanderbilt. I'm a veteran in Chatt. and pass Vanderbilt all the time on the way to the VA. And Rain Man ... as always you are the best pal us Whiteblazer's could have. Always generous and a great host. I'm glad you are local for Tuckahoe64. Blessings to everyone praying as well :)
