many of you are singing it's praises...However, I have a question. I want to go ultralight and only want one item for raingear...I am going to the Sierras this July, and don't anticipate days of rain...there will be rain, yes, but hopefully I want be packing in it a lot. So, is the pack cover of the PACKA detachable from the torso/sleeves? If so, does the "packa" then provide a decent shell that if there is good fleece, etc, that you will be warm?

Or, should I just invest in a good rain gear and pack cover, as I will probably wait out the rain.

The packcover is not detachable from the jacket. My vision for the Packa is that it is for walking with a backpack on in the rain or cold. If you will not be hiking in the rain, but rather waiting it out, you would probably be happier with a jacket/packcover combination.

It did me very well as a shell in my '08 winter hike. I love the thing.

However, if you don't plan on hiking in the rain a lot, then a rain jacket with a pack liner or pack cover (I use both) is probably what you want.
