Is there a digital version of Appalachian Pages available? Alternatively would it be a violation of the copy-write if you bought a copy of the guide, scanned the pages into PDF and loaded that onto your phone or PDA? (my use only not to distribute to others)

Appalachian Pages is no longer in print, having been replaced by the AT Guide. I suggest you contact AWOL who is the author. Differing from The Companion, the AT Guide and the ThruHikers Handbook are moneymaking (probably breakeven) endeavors. An online version would not help that situation.

Get the PDF version of the ATC's handbook from the ALDHA site. Should work on most small devices.

It might be easier to get AWOL's loose-leaf edition and just carry the pages you need. Once www.trailmapmagic.com gets their Android version released, we might see increased activity in trail guide applications that integrate GPS, maps and data for smart phones and PDAs.
