I am doing a section hike through Maryland next week and was reading through my guidebook. At the beginning of Maryland Section two (heading South to North) it states that there is a major trail relocation planned to move the trail off of private land. Does anyone know if this has happened yet? I am using the 16th edition of the Guidebook.

I have the 16th edition, does anyone have the 17th? If so does it still mention a trail move in Maryland Section 2?

Don't overthink. Just walk and follow the blazes. It'll take you the right way.

They did do a major relo there perhaps around 2005 but it's just the same easy hiking in Maryland, no significant mileage change or anything..

I hiked Maryland a couple of weeks ago. Same as it was in '06....
No changes I could see.
No problemo, with water in all the usual places, showers at Dahlgren, etc.

[A possible helpful hint: Avoid going to the spring at the Ed Garvey Shelter unless you like going all the way down into the valley and back for your water!]

Should be just warm enough to avoid frostbite.
Enjoy!

I hear ya Hooch.

Another question it seems like the you are only supposed to camp in the "official" sites and shelters. I'm doing the hammock thing, I am assuming it is okay to string up just so long as I stick to those spots.

Great places to hang: Pogo Memorial Campsite, Annapolis Rocks, Dahlgren Backpack Campground (complete with showers and only a few minutes away from a full service tavern/restaurant). :D
