AT vs. Butane?

Planning to thru-hike next Spring and all the info I have read seems to suggest butane is hard to come by along the AT. I am hoping anyone with recent experience can clear this dilema up? Would love to save the weight by using butane but if it is too hard to find then I need to pick up a new stove here soon so I can begin to experiment. Thanks to anyone who replies!

Mostly available, especially all the Outfitters.
As you get North, bounce boxes frequently have large partial canisters 8).
