Attempting a SOBO thru this year, starting in about a week.
Debating between starting off with my tarp/bivy or tent.
I'm plenty confident with my tarp handling weather, but I know how miserable it can be to be confined to a bivy in hot, buggy weather.
Any chance someone could let me know what kind of conditions I can expect this time of year?
Thanks in advance.

Overnight lows on the CT in July -- figure ~35-50 degrees. Usually the mosquitoes give up by 8:30 or so. Hot and buggy at night would be pretty unusual...

to extend that, would overnight lows in august on the CT (esp. near San Juan) be ~ 25 - 40 perhaps?
I looked up overnight lows in silverton and other towns but figure the mtns are quite a bit cooler..

35-50 would still be a good range for August -- temperatures start to drop in September.
You should be fine with your tarp. I did the trail in July with a tarp and had no regrets. There was only one night I wished I had netting to keep the bugs out (and it was due to flies, not mosquitoes!)
It can and has snowed up there every month of the year.:-?
Most nights are chilly.:)
I enjoy my tent and the options it gives me. Lucky for me that I'm strong enough to carry an extra pound or two...
I might be doing a NOBO about then...??
ENJOY!:sun
