I don't know if you should get it or not - that's up to you.

Just remember that it's something else you have to carry and keep dry.

I upgraded to a rechargeable battery on my heavy duty headlamp and think its worth it

I just wonder how dependent you will become on finding an electrical outlet and how often. Since you posted this on a thru-hiker forum, I assume you're thinking of bringing it along on a thru-hike. I seldom do anything beside sleep after dark on a long hike, so it wouldn't be worth it for me. I carry no other chargers, and I think it's nice to be free of that little concern, making town stops as brief as possible. And like 10-K says, it's one more thing to keep dry, and not lose.

If you're going to use it on night hikes from home, it sounds like a great idea. I'm all for reducing throw-away battery use.

I just realized the price tag is only for the charger and battery--you also need the $65 headlamp. At nearly $100 for a headlamp/battery, my budget would complain too much. Like I said, I just don't use it enough to justify that. Maybe you could--that's up to you.
