Just returned from a 3 day trip on the Laurel Highlands Hiking Trail. Started at Ohiopyle and went to the route 31 parking area. After being totally exhausted after the first one nighter I was pleasently surprised that this trip was much better. I was tired after each leg but not completely wiped out. Seemed like I got a little stronger each day.

My Tarptent Moment was a breeze to set up and take down. Only problem was finding level spots to set up in the camping areas. Footsore was with me and had no trouble finding suitable trees to hang his hammock.

Had no problem finding water even though the pumps at the campsites were disabled. I used a Steripen and Footsore used a Firstneed water filter. Both worked fine as far as we know. May have to update in a few weeks, we'll see.

I'm already trying to figure out when I can get some more free time to hike the rest of the LHHT. Also contemplating several weeks on the AT next year. Yep, I think I'm hooked.

Glad you had a good experience. I hiked the LHT in '08 (http://www.trailjournals.com/entry.cfm?id=221960), technically Spring but really Winter. Nice trail. I assume you're aware that the bridge over the PA Turnpike is down resulting in a "broken" trail for now.

Here are 2 WB threads re the LHT. The more recent one has some links to follow the replacement bridge status.

Yeah, we knew the bridge was out. We had thought about doing the whole trail but with the bridge out decided to break it into two sections or maybe more depending on available time.
