I am trying to find out the milage for two sections around Hot Springs.
Does anyone know how many miles from Max Patch to Hot Springs?
How about Hot Springs to Sam's Gap?
From Wingfoot's 2006 book:
Max Patch to Hot Springs - 19.8 mi
HS to Sams Gap - 43.5 mi

FYI, those are very pleasant and easy sections. I went from Sams Gap to Hot Springs 3 hiking days, and then I flip-flopped down to Max Patch so I could join my wife and mom at the top on a lovely sunny morning in late October (2009). I didn't head north until after noon and had a nice stroll to Walnut Mountain Shelter (actually I tented in the cleared field overlooking the lights of Hot Springs), followed by an easy stroll to Hot Springs the next day, but it could easily be covered in a day.
sorry i cant add- it is 43.5 to sams and 20.6 to max patch road just south of the summit according to the 09 data book
