Holy Batteries Batman! You're killing yourself on weight.

Ditch All of them. Buy Energizer Ultimate Lithiums. Configure your GPS to use lower power consumption if possible (lower volume and contrast)

Lose the canteen, bring sodabottles instead. Put your cellphone in a Ziploc baggies and keep it off. Bring a book or something to keep yourself entertained at night. Snacks. Water purification if you're that kinda guy

What the hell is the zippo fluid for? Even the firesticks are a little overboard for starting fires.

It's a heck of a lot better selection than I had when I took my son on our first hike!

Really there's a lot you can do to lighten the load but I bet your food (mres) and clothes are where you could lose a lot of weight...

What are you taking for food and clothes?

You most likely don't need 2 fuel canisters. You could find a lighter light too, that thing looks heavy. Can't tell is there a med-kit? What about TP? Quite the heavy load your packing, but HYOH.

You ought to help BMECC pick up trash at PA 183 on Sunday. I guarantee we'll fix this for you even if you are a troll.

As someone once put it so well, you are not outfitting yourself for the Lewis and Clark expedition. I must hasten to add the science of it was sorted out mostly in southeastern Pennsylvania and enroute.

One option is to preload the end points and shelters in the GPS, leave it off unless curious, and leave 18 AAs at home. Might take 2 spares for the GPS & smaller flashlight.

1173.0 Swatara Gap, PA 72 - 480 - 40° 28.8118 / -76° 31.9905
1180.3 * Wm Penn Shelter - 1,300 - 40° 29.7360 / -76° 24.8600
1184.4 * 501 Shelter, PA 501 - 1,460 - 40° 30.7500 / -76° 20.8120
1199.5 * Eagles Nest Shelter - 1,510 - 40° 32.9570 / -76° 9.1600
1207.2 Port Clinton, PA - 400 - 40° 34.7348 / -76° 1.6315

If you son likes Clif bars, they are dense calories while hiking. Might want to avoid anything with chocolate if the temps are above 90° .. turns protein bars and trail mix into a sticky mess.

So lou, now that we know what a proper response looks like .......

It looks like you are going on a camping trip instead of a hiking trip.;)

This is very common starting from scratch for a few days out.:)

If you are not overweight try to get your pack down to 1/5 of your weight. If you are already packing a few extra pounds 1/5th gets even better. :p

While a lot of folks on here can be fanatical about thier pack weight you should at least try to get in the ballpark- maybe get out for a couple of days before your hike w/ your son and "shakedown" a few of those newbee mistakes.:)

Some observations:

rain gear?
only need one light source - the lightest one with the least amount of batteries
is that a muti-tool and a knife - probably only need knife
1 pr of bdu's is too much
extra shirt is probably not needed
2 t-shirts max and no cotton ones
if you insist on heavy mre's, what do you need stove and cook kit for?
if you insist on heavy mre's, leave out components that you don't need (ie. you don't need 5 spoons, etc.)
forgo the heavy mre's for lipton sides and tuna/chicken packets, mac-n-cheese, etc
needle for draining blisters
lighter

Concur:
leave canteen
water purification

Have Fun!

See you on the trail,
