So I will be ending a NY NOBO hike at Hoyt Rd at the NY/CT state line in a few weeks.

Ive heard terrible things about the parking at Hoyt Rd. A few threads uncovered multiple break-ins so Im not really comfortable leaving my car there for a week.

Is there somewhere in town, nearby where we could park our car for a few days and have no problems with towing, vandalism or theft? Were willing to get a cab or walk to wherever we need to, but have no idea what the area consists of.

Any and all suggestions welcome.

Thanks

By this I believe Snowman means the lot on the south side of Rte 55(?), which is the next crossing - comes up very soon after Hoyt Rd.

okay, does anyone else have info on this location? a break in is the last thing we'd like to end our trip with if you can undrstand that:)

I started a SB section and NB section from Hoyt Rd. It is a small lot for maybe 3 or 4 cars on a back road. The place just looked right for a problem so I avoided parking there.

This is a great site for parking information:

I have not had an issue parking at Hoyt Rd or many other supposed problem AT parking lots between NJ and NH. Don't leave anything interesting out in plain sight and you will be okay ... probably. :)

If you're worried, I would choose this lot over Hoyt Road only because it's a state road with a lot more traffic, rather than a narrow back road - thus more eyes to observe nefarious activity. It's just 7/10ths of a mile past Hoyt Rd.

thanks, this is a good possibility. a friend of ours may also meet us for half the trip in which case he can leave his car in a better area and we can get a cab back to it

My car was broken into at Hoyt Rd and I was only gone for approx. 1 hr so I know it was locals. I am still looking for the little bastards and when I find them there will be others that will have to be looking for them. I second parking at Rt 55 NOT Hoyt Rd.

Yikes! Better look in your rear view mirror before you park next time.
