Looking to do a couple of one night hikes in the next couple months prior to a planned 7-10 section hike through SNP to HF. Looking for advice on the best places to safely park overnight. I guess anyplace between HF and Rockfish Gap or so would be OK since I dont want to go too much farther South for a one night trek.

Anyone with current information on a good place to park? Time of week is flexible, I'm actually hoping to do it during the week - maybe a Th-F - to avoid the weekend day hiking crowd which I know from experience can be pretty large in SNP.

I parked at the Northern VA 4H Center just outside of Front Royal. It's very safe and just a short blue blaze from the lot to the trail. Written permission required, contact the center.

Between Front Royal and Harpers Ferry you could leave a car at Bears Den in Bluemont VA or the nearby Blackburn A.T. center. (Call them first to get permission, rates, etc.)

And in SNP itself, the major parking areas are regularly patrolled and are probably safe for short-term parking, assuming you leave nothing of interest visible in your car.
