Thursday (I think) I was reading some 2010 journals at trailjournals.com & found a quote about how to judge if you have gone not far enough, just right or too far.
It read something like:
If you get to the shelter & have a tired smile on your face, you went far enough.
If you get to the shelter & Immediately start complaining about the shelter, you didn't go far enough.
If you get to the shelter & start crying, you went too far.

BUT, I want the quote exactly as the author posted it & I KNOW the above misses the fine nuances I got from the original post. I also want to give credit to the poster AND I CAN'T FIND IT or remember who's journal it was on. Does anyone know which journal it was on???
HELP!

It was from the word document put together by "the other guy" (that was his trail name). I don't believe he had an actual trail journal, he just linked to it here on a thread a few days ago.

Thanks!!!!

I got it close, sort of:

"When you get to a shelter and you smile wearily, that means you had a decent day. If you immediately start assessing its inadequacies, you should've pressed on. If you want to weep with joy, you probably went too far."

"The other guy" (Petr) said it better than me I think!!

Thanks again!

If you're hiking alone and wondering what that smell is...well...
