My husband is getting ready to do an 8 week section hike from Fontana Dam up to mid-Virginia. We've section hiked in the past and have seem people with sleeping pads that fold rather than roll. He'd like to try one of these but I can't seem to find ANY information about where to purchase one! To make this even tougher, he'd like to find one that's at least 1" to 1.5" thick. Can anyone point me in the right direction, please?? Thanks for any help you can give me!

The only pad I know of that folds is the Therm-a-Rest Z-Light pad, but it is not that thick, I think it's 3/4". Most outfitters will carry.

I am not sure if this answers your question or not. I have used a variety of self-inflating thermarests. After deflating the pad I close the valve and instead of rolling them I fold them into a long rectangle; then fold them further into a smaller rectangle.

Worked fine this way for years. My current pad is 1 1/2 inches thick.

Gossamer Gear carries a 3/4" thick torso length pad, about 3.5 oz each, he could velcro two of these together to get a longer pad or stack two for a thicker pad. I don't know of anyone that sells 1'-1.5" folding foam pads

I'll think you'll have to DIY a solution for a thick folding pad.

Most likely the folding mat you saw was indeed the Thermarest Z Lite. Used to be orange, now is yellow.
You could go the DIY way , have a look at this thread :

However bear in mind that the Z Lite is somewhat space efficient (compared to rolling mats) because of the egg crate shape.
