I'm currently looking at getting a The North Face Fission 20F sleeping bag.
It wieghs 2lbs 2oz, compresses to 7.5in x 13in, has synthetic fill, and can be bought for about $181.

I've looked at some of the quilt systems for hammocks, but have not found any with synthetic fill. After previous experience with weather, I've pretty much decided that synthetic fill is a must.

My questions is, does anyone know of a sleep system with similar or better specs than the Fission, that might work better with a hammock?

Any help is appreciated.

There's a company called Arrowhead Equipment that sells synthetic top quilts and bottom quilts. They are actually having a sale now so if you are looking for a quick buy, you could save some money.

You can use either a sleeping bag or a quilt inside the hammock.

Even if you use the sleeping bag, though, you'll need some sort of bottom insulation below about 70F, maybe down to 60F with the sleeping bag under you. For bottom insulation, you can use an underquilt or a pad.

If you've decided against down, AHE has synthetic ones, and you can also look at the Insultex ones made by MacEntyre. He recently made a deal Tree to Tree Trail Gear to sell his stuff.

This might help explain hammock insulation. There are more products out there now but the principles don't change.
