Tried 2x this summer to hike the 100 Mile Wilderness in one push, no sleep, no camping.

First attempt was not successful in June, heat and injuries

Second attempt was successful for the 3 of us that attempted August 7-8, 2010.

Time was 39 hours and 30 minutes from Abol Bridge to Monson.

I haven't been able to find out any other folks that have done the 100 in Adventure Race style. Does anyone know if it has been done?

No, but I did hike with a Brit who made 50 miles in there in under 20 hours. It was just a part of a long section hike. He raised several thousand dollars for charity by taking pledges at a party in New York City before his hike. He was hiking from NY to ME, pledged to do a 50 miler in under 24 hours and did it in the HMW, and quite handily, too.

I have thought about new wild races and the 100 mi was one of them maybe a canoe trail race like NFCT

Wonder if you could do it with a bag of Dove Dark Chocolate and a fanny pack?

just to clarify, was this unsupported or supported?. Still amazing anyhow but obviously with all of the road crossings, there could be support.

I did a 42 mile day hike with a 3qt Camelbak and a 2bl bag of M&Ms. I was wired and tired at the end!

What support would you need, other than to be picked up?

This was a supported event. We met a vehicle in 4 spots to refresh packs with necessities

after 25 miles @ Nahmankanta
after 15 more @ Jo Mary Rd
after 30 more @ Gulf Hagas
after 15 more @ Long Pond Stream
Finished in Monson

Gear list was about 3 liters of water/drink mix each, snacks, duct tape, minimal aid kit and iodine for each leg. Had 1 SPOT transmitter as well.

Extra layer, e blanket and headlamp for 30 mile leg to Gulf Hagas

Thanks for the details. You may start something like the SCAR through Smokies.

They did have support. I think about 4 stops. I was part of the unsuccesful north bound attempt when we had six stops planned.

There's an adventure race here in Texas I have been wanting to do. It's called the Texas Safari, if they hadn't changed their name. Its Canoeing from New Braunfel's Texas to the Gulf. One day I'm giving it a go..

great job!!

336 mile bike, 78.6 mile run, 7.2 mile swim

People are pushing the limits and seem to be getting stronger and faster every year.
Found that doing 15 mile days in NH and ME on the AT was much harder than the 101 mile Tour de Cure event I did this summer.

Yeah, centuries really aren't that hard if you're fit and have a comfortable bike, they're just loooooooooooooooooong.

Unless it's really hilly. :D

Just getting into running, completed a 10-mile the other day and I'd say it was harder overall than my usual 50-mile weekend rides to my hometown to see friends...

Cycling is easy if you do it right and you aren't racing seriously.

Don't know anything of the 100m wilderness but lots of "racing" on sections of the AT - the smokies (SCAR) and some 24 hr runs.

You should a bit of info on your successful run to Peter Bakwin at his site Fastest Known Times which lists a bunch of trail record attempts. http://fastestknowntime.proboards.com/

No. Karl Metzger tried to break the unoffical record for the entire trail - not just the 100 mile wilderness.
