What's with all the half socks people are wearing now. I have a small fortune in full length socks. Now, even my older brother is wearing half socks. What gives:confused:

I don't know. I wear 2 pairs of liners socks.

Seems to me, if you are going to wear 1/2 socks, perhaps one would require gaiters to keep mud and debris from getting in the shoes more easily?

I now wear shorter socks because I have switched from boots to shoes. Less material = less water soaking / less weight/bulk and more comfortable.

My shins get itchy when the hair on my legs is held down all day with socks.

Huh? They're shorter, not thinner.

I switched to half socks years ago. Never have problems with rocks or other debri in the shoes, and dont wear gaters (at least most of the time). To me they are very comfortable and cooler. And they tend to dry quicker

If I wear two pair of half socks, does it equal one pair of full socks? If I'm being a heel, please tell me. :)

Darn it, quit playing around! This is serious stuff. People tend to be wooly-headed until they come to WB for info! Go to the humor section for good yarns. B-a-a-a-a-a-a-d hiker! B-a-a-a-a-d!

:D :p

Were there even good half-height wool and synthetic hiking socks a few years ago? Let's say 10 years since that's when I bought most of my wool socks. I don't remember good offerings in the half-height category unless they were marketing towards runners.

i just got back yesterday from a 5 day trip to AZ; I wore half socks the whole time. its the first time i have done that. i liked them a lot. i mostly wear full socks though, because i like to hike in colder weather better than during the summer.

Seriously...I wear semi high top socks. I hate when tall grass tickles my ankles...drives me nuts. I keep thinking there are bugs crawling up my legs! I can look at the height of a sock and tell if it will work for me. The little short ones won't. :)

That's why I wear long socks, is so that people won't mistake me for someone young.

Also because I have lots of tall socks and am too cheap to replace them.

I wear mostly quarter socks rather than crews or over-the-calf, especially in the warmer months, for hiking, bicycling, working out in the yard, and other outdoor activities. They still provide excellent comfort & wicking properties if you purchase the right type and they're much, much cooler (temperature) than crews or over-the-calf. In colder conditions I'll switch back to crews for warmth.

Think outside the sock! Once I ditched the sock liners and hiking socks I stopped blistering so badly. Cheap gray 6 pairs for $6 socks for me now.

My merino wool hiking socks are great for shoveling the snow in my driveway and that's about it.

I stopped wearing knee socks in grade school. Socks are just magnets for foxtails. I prefer short socks and long pants.

Tell the truth. I heard you like those 70's style tube socks. Red striped ones at that.

Tube socks, red Converse, and short shorts for basketball IN the 70s.

Oh the days.......

Mini-Crew Smartwool Adrenalines are the socks every day of the year now......work and the trail. Makes for a simple sock drawer.

With merino wool one could almost get away with that.
