I found some in a 'fire kit' I had made probably 30 years ago and it was dry but had crumbled some...still would work
BUT WHY? When I teach survival classes I show them the difficulty in starting a fire many ways; and I carry at least three cheap BIC lighters that have never failed if kept dry.

Cool. I carry BIC lighters too and never had a problem. The char cloth and a Swedish FireSteel is a light weight back-up.

BTW, you know why thru's prefer white BIC lighters don't you?

Because they're, cheap, light and don't fail?

The main reason is it's easier to see the fuel level in the white BIC lighters than any other color.

White BIC's are the first to sell out in any hiker town!
