Any thoughts on them? We were looking at some at REI for car camping and short hikes. They seem ok, for the price (REI outlet), and like some of the designs. They seem similar to Eureka in quality, some designs and prices.

We have a dozen ALPS Mountaineering Taurus 4-Person Outfitter tents for our scout troop. It's been three years and we are very pleased with the quality. We went with the Outfitter tents for the stronger zippers and tougher components. Great for car camping.

I own a couple of Alps tents, mostly one and two man....Zephr I think is what they are called.

Solid tents, I have 30 nights in my personal one and the son has 10 nights or so in his. I don't like the velcro straps on the inside of the fly... It has kept me dry during some really booming storms.

I would buy them off of Steepandcheap......I paid 59 bucks each like 59% off or something like that.

Some discussion already here:

I already ordered the Neptune 4. It seems like it will meet my needs. If not, will return to REI when in Nashville for Christmas.

Seems like the Neptune is similar or the same as Taurus.

I like my 2 and recommend them any chance I get. I'd put them above eureka in quality, about equivalent with REI or kelty. Rumors are that they are made in the same factory as REI tents.

another Scoutmaster has the exact same tent except is was marketed by LL bean. He paid 3X more than I did. His colors are maybe more appealing....
