I prefer the short 4"-6" inseam shorts as well - Everyone has these crazy board shorts. I have given up searching and rely on my circa 1995 TNF nylon shorts as well as standard nylon running shorts.

Columbia Backcast shorts are 6". I cut the swim suit liner out. I also wear Under Armor underneath. The Backcast have two front pockets, a rear zippered pocket, a tool pocket on the right, belt loops, elastic waistband with draw string. I like them, they work for me.

I just hemmed up 3 pairs of my shorts, due that to exact problem. "Shorts" should NOT reach the knees. That's just not "short." Call 'em "Longs" if they are gonna be long, I say.

I couldn't agree more!!! What is it with the shorts being so long? I am also a runner and have trouble finding shorts, that aren't around my ankles, to run in. We always ran in 2" inseam shorts and hiked in 4-5" inseam shorts. If you stood on the starting line of the Boston Marathon with the elites, they would be wearing 2" shorts. Where do they find them? It ain't Roadrunner Sports, or Footlocker, or Dick's Sporting Goods, or anywhere else that I can find. Thanks!! I just needed to vent.

Man, have I got a website for you: www.raceready.com (http://www.raceready.com)

Here's a link to the 4" inseam shorts: http://www.raceready.com/men/2501ld.html They also have 3" and 1" inseams as well.

Shorts, short shorts, and short, short short shorts.

Great product, great company.

I normally don't wear shorts this short unless I'm running longer than half marathon distance.

I can vouch for the quality of their shorts - I've got a few pair that are 2+ years old and still going strong. Actually, the first pair I bought to run the Myrtle Beach marathon in 2005 are still in great shape.

Another option is the Golite Mesa trail shorts with a 5" inseam. Size medium weighs 118g.

probably too late now, but ya can't beat the nylon kmart swimsuits. cut the net out or leave in for hot weather, all colors and about $4 on sale a couple of months ago. right length and keep you thighs from rubbing together.

*sigh* I just had to click on it. Now that image is permanently burned into my mental rolodex.

It's always hard to find decent lightweight backpacking shorts, and I checked out the Raceready shorts but let's face it, the tiny side pocket would not work when wearing a hipbelt and they don't have any front mesh pockets. The back "running" mesh pockets are unusable for backpacking. I'm still looking.

I did find two pair of "swimtrunks" as Walmart for $5 each(like the Kmart things)and these may become my current backpacking shorts. I'll go and check out the GoLite things. My worn out in-use shorts are a nice pair of Patagonia drawstring, now discontinued, of course.

That's generally what I hike in if I'm planning on shorts only.
There might be some nylon shorts at Salvation Army, too. I doubt you'll find swimwear because of the sewn-in liner, but I haven't shopped there for that particular item. I got a nice pair of New Balance 991 running shoes for $11.00 recently, though!

Many Men's Warehouse's will modify almost any clothing if you cannot hem.

There is a guy who walks in my neighborhood that I see when I am walking the dog that must have 1/2" inseam. Even my dog is uncomfortable with this.

My brain is saying, this . But, my body is doing, this :clap

That is a great visual. And by great, I mean, too funny.

Thanks, that made me laugh.

Those are hard to wear out. Once you finally do, the new pair feels like plywood.

How come you didn't stash some? One of the sad facts- find anything you like and they change it.

Course, those EGADS! shorts might be more your style.:)
