Have to admit my ignorance, what do those stand for?

I'm new here but I always figured Northbound and Southbound. Fits the context of how they're used.

Two more terms you might be interested in are GAME and MEGA. They identify through hikers by their start and destination- nobos are GAME Springer Mt, Georgia to Mt Katahdin, Maine and sobo MEGAs (those lowlifes :)), the opposite. It's how we sign shelter logs, as in: Memphis Tim GAME '08
