I got a tattoo of the Pacific Crest Trail on my leg. (The other one is old.)

It's a little hard to take a picture of it since it wraps around my leg. Here's the whole thing, more or less. Just thought I would share. If it's inappropriate, I apologize.

Nice! I love the PCT logo. I was so tempted to steal one of those big PCT logo signs off a tree last year. Sadly, my better nature got the best of me and I left them all out there.

why? i served in the U.S. Marine Corps and don't have a tat to prove it. why get one for walkin'?

The tat isn't to prove anything. It's to commemorate an amazing feat, a memorable moment. People get tats for far lesser reasons.

sbhikes
09-06-2010, 21:13
Yes, it's to remember the amazing event. And so if someone asks about it, I can just raise my pant leg and show them the map. I can't wait to hike it again with the tattoo on my leg.

Why don't you take your negativity elsewhere. It's not aboug bragging or validation. I've wanted a tattoo that meant something to me and since the PCT has meant more than anything I ever did before, that's what I chose. I figured being fellow long trail hikers there might be someone here who would like to see it. I know I searched this forum and the Internet for cool long trail tattoos, finding only one of the PCT, sadly. Now there are two.

Not a big fan of tattoos but I like this one. I saw an accomplished woman rower this summer that had two crossed oars on her ankle. I liked that tattoo also, and told her so. Good thing, because she could easily have kicked my ass if I said otherwise.

I have some scars from when I fell in the mud (arm first) in Maine. The rock tore a double gouge in my forearms. That's my AT "tattoo". :)

(Have similar scars on my legs and knees from falls, scrapes and bang ups over the years. Those are my generic 'outdoor dude' tats... :sun: )

That's what I was thinking... I've got a nice scar on the shin from a close encounter of the rocky kind in Mahoosic Notch.

Here is an interesting tatoo from the ADZPCTKO from a member of the class of '09.

I know another hiker who had the PCT emblem (without the outside border) done on his ankle in Vancouver after he finished.

I dated a guy who rowed crew in college and he had the same thing. Everyone on his team got them after they won some championship. Body art can be very cool. Me, I am too chicken after seeing friends get theirs.

Thanks for the complements Jason Moore from Ink and Dagger Tattoo in Decatur GA(suburb of Atlanta) did it. I highly reccomend him. I wa worried the straight line would make it look funny but since it healed it looks good still no touch up needed.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I wanted to tell Diane how great I think that tattoo is.

I've been planning to commemorate my thru hike with a tattoo when I finish the trail for awhile now. I have an old friend from high school with a tattoo shop in the Seattle area. I was discussing my tattoo with him this morning and decided to do a search for others' ideas. This thread is the first result on Google for "PCT tattoo" :D

I was thinking of something similar. I want the PCT logo along with the dates or maybe just the year. I want a map too, but am undecided on an outline style like yours or something with shaded relief. I'm asking my buddy for his advise since he's the artist.

I like Waterbuffalo's too! Is that the official AT logo now?

Mostly from the logo...

They have a PCT medal now. It's nearly the same as my tattoo except to the left of the map there is the old diamond-shaped logo. So that's pretty cool that I came close to the medal.

If you search on Postholer for Mr. Mountaingoat in 2010, he got a tattoo in Cascade Locks. I kind of like his better but my tattoo guy didn't think the lettering would last long plus I really wanted the map and some color. His tattoo is one of the last of his pictures.

The map has been the funnest part of the tattoo because anytime I tell someone I hiked the trail and they've never heard of it, I just show them the map.

Hayduke_AZ
02-23-2011, 15:37
I want a map I think too. I want a PCT logo, but I won't put dates IN the logo. I hope to rehike the PCT again someday, so I need a space to add another date/year ;)

I also saw the brief glimpse of a tattoo on that Youtube video from KO. That one was nice too. Luckily, I'll have plenty of time to ponder it. I will NOT get it until my hike is complete. I currently have no tattoos. I always felt I could never do that unless it was something I know I would want to be reminded of for the rest of my life. I'm sure the PCT is that something ;)
