I was looking to start section hiking the AT in late October, but I noticed on the website that hunting season starts Oct 18th. Should I switch it to the 1st week in Oct or keep it where it is? Also does anyone know what the weather should be like then?

If it is hunting season just wear orange. I nice orange pack cover is prob best.
You don't read about too many hikers being shot.

LOL no. Do they hunt all winter? I've never been hunting. I don't even step on ants.
weather if ideal in October, just wear orange shirt and an orange pack cover is not a bad idea

It really is a good idea. A hunter isn't going to mistake you for prey but you could possibly be beyond their target. The orange gives you a better chance at being spotted in the distance.
Mistakes happen but fortunately such mistakes are rare. Orange makes em rarer.

I don't like PETA and I'm not an animal right's activist. Just a hiker who doesn't know when the mighty hunters shoot their guns in North Georgia. :D

These trail sections pass through the Chestatee WMA and the Chattahoochee WMA. The dates for the Chestatee hunt are Nov 3-6 Dec 8-11 Dec. 30-Jan 1
The dates for the Chattahoochee hunt are Oct 27-30 Nov 17-20 Dec 1-4
The Chestatee Area is from Woody Gap to Hogpen Gap
The Chattahoochee Area is between Hogpen and Unicoi Gap.
Hunting is only allowed on these dates. They begin on Wed and end on Sat. These areas are not known for drawing many hunters.
